Jean Wallace
It is with much regret that we advise of the passing of Life Member Jean Wallace on 25 November 2008 at the age of 94. Her funeral was held in Maryborough on 1 December.
Jean was granted life membership in 1997 and was a very popular member of the Maryborough Contract Bridge Club. She loved assisting new players and helped Malcolm Behrendorff with the lessons for new players in the late 1990’s. Malcolm said her game improved tremendously after that.
She played until a few years ago when she went to live near her family on the Sunshine Coast due to ill health.
In 2000 she went to play in the Grand National Open Teams Championships in Sydney with her partner Mary Dunn and the other members of the team, Melva Hulme (deceased), Audrey Wyer (deceased), and Olive Williams.
Her name appears on the Maryborough Club’s championship boards for Teams, Pairs, and the President’s Trophy over many years, culminating with winning the Thursday Night Pairs in 2005 with partner Evelyn Keys.
