June Corlis

Sadly we lost June Corlis earlier this year at the age of 90. She was a member of the Maryborough Contract Bridge Club from the early 1970’s when we played in private homes with Judy Valentine, and also deceased members Isobel Galletly and Jean Bargenquast.

June was an avid player and fortunately was able to play four times a week until shortly before her passing. She well remembered the days of fund raising when the club played at the QCWA, and then the Sailing Club before the club house in Walker Street was purchased. We are very grateful for the energy and foresight of our early members to give us our own facilities.

One of her favourite sayings when playing was, “You do what you think best at the time.” Another one was, “We’re not playing for sheep stations.”

June will be sadly missed by us all.
